Introduction

Scratchy expands on the ideas of a classic Japanese game from 1979 — Pacman. The original game was developed by Toru Iwatani of the Namco company over 18 months. It's often said that what inspired Iwatani was a slice of pizza. In a 1986 interview he noted it was half-true: Iwatani drew a rounded version of the Kuchi (Mouth) Kanji, as a symbol of devouring, and gave it a likeness of a mouth.

Scratchy tries to advance Pacman's ideas. There are new enemies with different behavior, and the protagonist can escape them by climbing destructible walls. These added elements make the game even more dynamic and interesting. Try it for yourself!

Plot

Scientists of the future have made an amazing discovery. Each human has a magical world linked to them. This world is in a parallel dimension and reflects the human's state. If the person falls ill, the world changes — monsters fill it, slowly destroying it, until the person dies.

The scientists found a way to combat heretofore incurable illnesses. They send Scratchy to the person's parallel world. There, Scratchy eats energy spheres that monsters feed on, thus ridding the world of these monsters. And the person gets better!

Every passed level is a human life saved!

The game

Your task is to control Scratchy and clear levels of energy spheres while monsters try to stop you. When all the spheres are eaten, you move to the next, harder, level.

Sometimes, food you can eat for score appears on the level. If a super energy sphere is eaten, Scratchy becomes invincible for monsters and able to eat them. But be careful — the duration of the super energy sphere's effect is limited.

You get points for eating different monsters and items:

  • 5 — energy sphere
  • 50 — super energy sphere
  • 350 — eye monster
  • 500 — running food
  • 1500 — troll monster

If enough points are collected, you can record your name in the high-score table that is always available from the main menu.

Controls

  • Left arrow — move left
  • Right arrow — move right
  • Up arrow — move up
  • Down arrow — move down
  • Space — climb wall

Scratchy moves in the specified direction. If you want to change direction, push the respective key, wait for him to turn and only than release the button. Same goes about climbing walls — don't release space until Scratchy starts actually climbing it.
